La Xiquella, formatges i turisme rural

La Xiquella formatgeria was born in 2014, the project of Irma and Oriol, a small workshop of artisan cheeses.

Located at the foot of the green route Olot-Girona, the cheese shop produces weekly cheeses of raw milk from cow and sheep. The milk comes from farms in the Vall d'en Bas and sheep's milk is obtained from herds of the Catalan Pyrenees. The cheese shop offers visiting the dairy cows farm where you can see cows, calves and milking parlor, while explaining the characteristics and processes of obtaining milk.

The visit to the workshop - yes, located in La Xiquella - explains the cheese making process in addition to the main characteristics and differences between tender cheeses, cured (pressed pastes) or creamy (soft pastries ). Finally, a tasting of the products is made and the possibility of buying them in the same cheese shop is offered.
