La Garrotxa is waiting for you

10 Jul

This territory always awaits you and now, given the present events, more than ever. Zero risk doesn’t exist, but every tourist destination must guarantee the maximum possible security for its tourists and visitors, in close collaboration with the health authorities. To make this possible, from Turisme Garrotxa we’ve worked on the following aspects:

First, since the beginning of the health crisis, all the information that the Garrotxa tourism sector could need was gathered on the association’s website. On the one hand, a section was set up with complete information on current regulations, measures and support towards the tourism sector from different administrations; and on the other hand, a section with updated information on the online trainings that have been organized by different administrations.

More than 400 professionals from La Garrotxa tourism sector have gone through the webinars that the organization planned to improve their knowledge on health protocols. These workshops have been co-organized by Turisme Garrotxa with the Consortium of Environment and Public Health of La Garrotxa, DinàmiG and the Foundation for Higher Studies of Olot, and have been led by a professional in the field of mycology and food security.

These trainings have helped the tourism sector in our region to adopt the best health measures for its reopening. Following the guidelines, the first to reopen were a few bars and restaurants — offering takeaways or home deliveries. Subsequently, most establishments in the restaurant sector reopened their terraces, and now almost the entire sector has reopened their indoor dining rooms, respecting the maximum capacity allowed in each phase of de-escalation.

As we are aware that, in the coming months, most people who visit La Garrotxa will come from local markets, Turisme Garrotxa has worked on specific campaigns for visitors, such as “Now we take care of you”, aimed at the health community. This campaign included more than 35 offers on accommodation, a calendar of more than fifty guided activities and the publication of more than forty initiatives — presented by companies of La Garrotxa Tourism Innovation and Product Service, and based on: nature and culture, gastronomy, incentives, health and well-being, enabling to fully enjoy this territory.

Now, all these proposals are collected on the site lagarrotxatespera.com, a website that also includes other new ideas such as “50 things to do before you’re 99 years old”, “La Garrotxa of our grandparents” or “Motorhome-friendly”, resulting from the collaboration between professionals from the tourism, cultural and artisan sector of the region during these last weeks.

A part from these short-term actions, strategic planning work hasn’t stopped. The renewal of the strategy of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, which through participatory sessions opened to the public this July, enables everyone to have a say on the county’s new tourism strategy and the possibility to contribute in the planning of new actions on a five-year scheme.
